Systematics Section/ASPT Attigala, Lakshmi [1], De Silva, Nuwan [2], Clark, Lynn [3]. A simple interactive key for the native Sri Lankan temperate woody bamboos: Arundinaria. An interactive key allows users to identify specimens by eliminating taxa whose characters do not match those of the specimen in hand. Another advantage is that users can input the characters in any order. The current program is a web-based multi-access identification tool that uses Microsoft ASP.NET technologies and an SQL Server database which are available online as a free download. ASP.NET contains Microsoft’s latest framework and tool sets for building web-based applications. We used these technologies to build a simple, easy-to-use interactive key that enables identification to any Sri Lankan native Arundinaria species. The images used in this interactive key provide an easy understanding about each unique character state. In addition users can access the dichotomous key designed to distinguish these species and users can also download complete species descriptions for each native Sri Lankan Arundinaria species. Further, this application can be easily modified to develop interactive keys for other grass, and especially bamboo, groups. All the characters and images used in this web-based application are from the Iowa State University Bamboo Biodiversity website (http://www.eeob.iastate.edu/research/bamboo/). Once the interactive key is complete, users can access it through this website. Broader Impacts:
