New capabilities in the Integrated Taxonomic Information System(ITIS) and the release and new capabilities of Biodiversity Information Serving Our Nation (BISON).

With the public release of (BISON) Biodiversity Information Serving our Nation at bison.usgs.ornl.gov a new and rapidly growing resource for biodiversity occurrence data with more than 110 million records in a geospatial context becomes available. A demonstration of BISON capabilities and features will be given. These include numerous types of textual and map (polygon, box, state, county etc.) based searches and downloads as well as real time viewing of statistics on the actual usage of individual data sets by provider. Numerous spinoff applications on various platforms will be demonstrated to show how BISON data services can very easily be modified and used in many ways on your own web pages and in your own applications. The new Online Taxonomic Workbench application in the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) at www.itis.gov which allows web based manipulation and update of ITIS data by ITIS taxonomic data stewards will be demonstrated as well. Finally applications based on newly enhanced ITIS web services and those in combination with BISON web services will be demonstrated.
